A beautifully balanced wine, with lifted red berries and savoury undertones. Medium bodied with spicy red fruits on the palate. It is rounded off by mouth coating tannin that is a hallmark of this variety. Following in the traditional Italian method, this wine was aged in an eight year old French oak barrel for 21 months adding to an extra 15 months bottle age, prior to its recent release.
|Notes From The Winemaker:||An early budburst and early strong growth was followed by warm temperatures through November and December resulting in an excellent flowering and fruit set. A dryer than usual summer and autumn led to perfect ripening conditions post veraison, with the wet humid conditions that adversely affected many of Australia's warm climate wine regions during veraison not appearing in the higher altitudes of the Hilltops region, and therefore disease pressures were low and excellent clean fruit was harvested across all varieties. The winter rains from 2014 ensured a healthy crop load with intense varietal character but with moderate acidity.|
