This Shiraz has been produced from grapes grown by our premium grower in the Hilltop region of NSW. The vineyard is situated on a rolling hillside near Young at an altitude of 500m and has rich red volcanic soil. This vineyard has warmer days to ripen our Shiraz and cool nights to ensure our fruit is grown with the rich aromatic development and balance that this region is renowned for.
|Notes From The Winemaker:||A drier than normal winter in 2016 meant budburst happened 2 weeks earlier than usual. Normally this put us at slight risk to frost but some spring rainfall helped the frost stay away and ensured healthy growth in the vines. While it was a dry growing season, maximum temperatures were still moderate and the harvest dates for all varieties ended up falling back to the their expected times, not earlier as experienced in other grape-growing regions. The Hilltops region is blessed with mostly drier and warmer days with some cooling relief at night due to its continental position. The fruit was harvested on 20th February 2017 at 13.3 Baume. The wine has been fermented in open fermenters with 1 week skin maceration post ferment. It has been matured for 10 months in old French oak.|
