Southern Highlands Pinot Noir 2016

This wine is a meticulous 50/50 blend of our 115 and MV6 clones from our “Yaraandoo” vineyard

This wine is burgundy in colour and the aroma offers a gamey note with hints of spice and sweet red cherry.  It has excellent complexity and great length with silky tannins.

Notes From The Winemaker: A drier than normal winter in 2015 meant budburst happened 2 weeks earlier than usual. Normally this put us at slight risk to frost but some spring rainfall helped the frost stayed away and ensured healthy growth in the vines. While it was a dry growing season, maximum temperatures were still moderate and the harvest dates for all varieties ended up falling back to the their expected times, not earlier as experienced in other grape-growing regions. The Southern Highlands always dances with danger at harvest time because of storms and autumnal rainfall which is why our vineyards are meticulously managed with extra measures such leaf plucking and careful canopy management to ensure our fruit stays healthy and clean. The 115 fruit was harvested on 20th March at 13.4 baume, and the MV6 on 23rd March at 13.2 baume. This wine went through a 7 day ferment in open fermenters with 8% whole clusters and was hand-plunged 3 times per day. It had 5 days post ferment maceration and was pressed (in our awesome Europress), settled overnight, then racked to French barriques and hogsheads, 40% of which was new. It has enjoyed 10 months maturation and was blended and bottled in late February 2017
