2018 Vintage – Bottled 19th February 2019
On our Yaraandoo site, running alongside 200 year old gum trees, our four rows of Lagrein, look like they have found a new productive home in the highlands. Our production is very limited, keeping this wine as a special addition to our club member tasting list in the cellar door. This wine shows dark berry and herbal aromas, with an intense, concentrated palate. It spent 9 months in an old French barrique. A rare variety, well worth a visit to the highlands to discover.
|Notes From The Winemaker:||The bud burst in 2017 came 2 weeks earlier than previous years resulting in excellent flowering and fruit. A dry Spring/Summer led to perfect ripening conditions post veraison, therefore disease pressures were low and excellent clean fruit was harvested. Added to this was the dry summer across the eastern coastline of NSW, leaving the cool nights to help with a slow ripening period. The fruit was picked early in the cool highlands morning then taken to the winery where it was crushed and fermented in half tonne open fermenters. After 14 days it was pressed to old French oak puncheons and matured in our cellar for 9 months. The wine was fined, filtered and bottled in February.|
